Round 5 of the Kappa Queensland Cup sees another huge inter-regional battle, with reigning FQPL Champions League winners Across the Waves FC making the trip to Mackay Football Park to take on Magpies Mackay FC.
It will be a third consecutive appearance for the travelling team at this stage of the competition, with The Waves having beaten Mackay Lions 2-0 in 2023, and suffering a 4-2 loss to now-defunct NPL club Mackay and Whitsunday Coast Magpies Crusaders United in 2022.
Both sides remain undefeated in their respective leagues, with the hosts claiming five wins and two draws from their opening seven matches, while Across the Waves remain yet to drop any points in their first six league games.
The Magpies find themselves in the fifth round thanks to victories over local rivals Mackay Rangers, Mackay Lions and Mackay Wanderers, with the travelling team overcoming the Sunbury Blues and Rockhampton’s Frenchville FC to book their place in this fixture.
There will be some familiar opponents sharing the pitch in the fixture, with several Magpies FC players having played against Across the Waves in a 4-2 win for Magpies Crusaders FC in 2022.
The winner of this Round 5 clash will book their place in the Regional Final against the winner of Brothers Townsville vs Cairns Southside Comets, to be played at the same time.
