Match Report: Across the Waves FQPL Women vs Clinton FC (Preseason Friendly)

Womens

Our FQPL Women continued their pre-season preparations with a 4-1 win at home over Gladstone outfit Clinton FC.

We took the lead in the first minute through Maddi Flanagan, and quickly doubled the lead when Ciara Barazza instinctively slotted the ball home after Ruby Rowlands’ free kick came back off the post.

The visitors struck back before half time through a long-range effort from Nickola Ware.

Our FQPL Women continued to press for another goal, but Clinton FC defended resiliently, with their goalkeeper making some stunning saves. In the dying minutes of the game, we were able to double our lead, finding the back of the net through Abbey King who managed to break through the Clinton FC defensive line and produce a cool finish to slot the ball past the keeper.

Our fourth and final goal came in the form of a powerful shot from inside the 18-yard box by new signing and former ATW Junior Brooke Harrington.

“We are appreciative of Clinton FC travelling to come play us – it was a good game, played the right way,” said Head Coach Riki Fulton.

“On our side, everyone played well individually, and as a team. There are a lot of positives we can take away from the game which included players playing in positions that are new to them. Ciara Barazza was player of the match in an unfamiliar striker role and Lilliana Brillante excelled at centre back. With less than three weeks until the start of the season, we are excited about the 2025 season and are looking forward to Round 1”
